Who We Are

English Horizons Language Centre

Our Pioneers

The pioneers are experienced teachers. Prior to English Horizons, this dynamic couple was teaching in established schools, with experience in the editing and publishing of textbooks. They are well-versed in enrichment teaching methods and its impact on children.

Their expertise and experience have enabled them to design engaging and effective courses that enhance not just the language, but also learning skills.

Jenny Tan

Jenny has been a teacher of English for more than 30 years. She also has a certificate in Guidance and Counselling that allows her to reach out to her students in different ways. Having taught in both Malaysia (Kangar, Kuala Selangor, Cheras, and Sri KL International School) and Singapore (Chinese High and Creative Horizons) in the O-Level and IGCSE English curricula, she has a deep insight into the difficulties and issues that students face.

Poay Lim Tan

Poay Lim began as a teacher of math and science. He spent two years in the Examinations Syndicate working on local exam papers and also criterion-referenced tests for assessing aptitude in non-academic areas. Feeling the need to expand his experience, he then became a book editor in both English and Malay. This took him 25 years into the world of books in Malaysia and Singapore. His passion to change the way students approach learning brought him back to Malaysia and led to the creation of English Horizons.

Our Teachers

Our teachers are committed and experienced. They understand that a child needs to be challenged in a fun and non-threatening environment. Beyond their educational qualifications, they are educators who understand how to stretch the bright and encourage the shy.

Our Uniqueness

Students benefit from our English programmes, which emphasise:

  • independent learning

  • collaborative learning

  • multiple learning styles

  • learning how to learn

Through our skill-based interactive lessons, our students become fully involved in their own learning, while developing skills of learning with and within a community.

Because we understand and appreciate the value of one-to-one interaction with students, we maintain small classes, with an average of six students per class and never exceeding ten students.
